      Do’s:
      1. When an earthquake strikes, stay calm and take shelter immediately.
      2. During an earthquake, drop down to the ground, take cover under a sturdy table or desk, brace yourself against it, and hold on.
      3. If indoors, stay there until the shaking has completely stopped.
      4. Stay away from ceilings, windows, and outside walls.
      5. Stay in bed if you are there when the shaking starts. Cover your head with a pillow.
      6. Do not use elevators but use stairs instead to evacuate a building.
      7. Make sure to have a plan for reuniting with family members if separated during an earthquake.

      Don’ts:
      1. Don’t panic. Remain calm and alert.
      2. Don’t stand in a doorway as it does not provide protection from falling objects and it can easily become blocked.
      3. Don’t run outside or to other rooms during the shaking.
      4. Don’t use matches, lighters, candles, or any open flame.
      5. Don’t use electrical appliances, and don’t turn on any lights, switches, or plugs.
      6. Do not try to drive in the middle of an earthquake. Pull over to the side of the road, stop, and remain in the car until the shaking stops.
      7. Don’t try to outrun a tsunami. Evacuate to higher ground as soon as possible.
