The size of a concrete footing depends on several factors, including the anticipated load, soil composition, and geometry of the planned structure. Generally, it is recommended that footings are at least twice as wide as the width of the wall they are supporting and extend at least 12 inches below the frost line.
Additionally, they should be thick enough to provide adequate bearing capacity (typically 9”-12”) and should be designed by a qualified engineer when the planned structure is complex or heavily loaded.
