To calculate the size of a door frame, you’ll need to measure the door opening itself and then add an extra inch to each side for the jamb width. Once you have the measurements of the door opening, you’ll need to determine the height of the frame. You’ll want to measure from the finished floor or threshold to the bottom of the header, which is usually 4 inches above the top of the door opening.
After measuring the height and width of the door opening, add 1/2 inch to each side to allow space for the doorstop trim. Finally, add 1/2 inch to the top of the frame to finish the job.
