To change the battery on a smoke alarm on a high ceiling, you will need to use a ladder or other safe means of reaching the alarm. Make sure to secure the ladder firmly before climbing up and that you follow proper safety precautions when working at height.
Once you have reached the alarm, remove the cover by pressing and holding the button on the side or top of the alarm and then pulling the cover off. Replace the old battery with a new one of the specified type for your smoke alarm and make sure it is correctly installed and secured. Close the cover again and test the alarm to ensure it’s now working correctly.
