Shotcrete is typically done with a dry mix of cement, water and other additives that is sprayed onto a prepared surface or formwork to create a strong and stable finish. The shotcrete can be either an air- or wet-applied mix. Air-applied shotcrete uses compressed air to force the dry material from a hose and nozzle onto the prepared surface.
For wet-applied shotcrete the material is mixed with water and then forced through a hose onto the surface. Depending on the job requirements and local regulations, some shotcrete processes may require the addition of accelerators to increase the initial set time or special admixtures to improve the durability of the shotcrete.
