Replace any broken or badly cracked tiles with new tiles. Carefully lift the affected tile and inspect it for damage. If necessary, use a chisel and hammer to remove any pieces that are stuck in the mortar. For cracked tiles, use a hammer and chisel to break them up into smaller pieces so they can be easily removed. Make sure you wear safety glasses when breaking the tiles into pieces!
Once the old tiles are removed, take the measurements of the tile gap and cut a new piece of tile to fit in its place. Secure the new tile using mortar, making sure it is properly aligned with the surrounding tiles. Use a damp cloth to wipe off any excess mortar and allow the tile to dry before walking on it.
