The S-code of soil bearing capacity is an equation used to calculate the safe bearing capacity of a soil. It is based on the Standard Penetration Test (SPT) N-value, which is defined as the number of blows required to penetrate a soil sample with a standard size cone-shaped probe. The S-code is used to calculate the ultimate bearing capacity of a soil, and is expressed in terms of either the maximum safe bearing pressure (pascals [Pa]) or the maximum allowable bearing force (kilonewtons [kN]).
