Canal lining is required for the following:
      • It makes canal more durable, if canal lining is provided it will increase durability against natural wear and tear also against chemical processes like salt etc. it will be more durable for the rainfall, sunlight, thawing, etc., durability against varying velocity of water, and damaging effect of cattle traffic, weed growth, etc.
      • Lining should be easily repairable and economical. For this reason, materials like brick tile, boulder, and precast slabs are used instead of cast in situ concrete linings.
      • We have to choose the type of lining which is not only economical initially but also cost-efficient in afterward maintenance.
      • Lining should be structurally strong enough in case of sub-soil water pressure due to subsoil grading seepage or rain or sudden drawdown.
