Making cement bricks at home is a simple process that requires just a few basic ingredients and tools. You will need Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water. You will also need a foldable form or mold in which to pour the mixture and ready access to water for cleaning the finished bricks.
Begin by measuring out equal parts of cement, sand, and gravel (2 to 3 parts sand and gravel, 1 part cement). Mix the dry ingredients together in a large container. Next, add water to the mixture gradually, mixing with your hands or a hoe until you have created a thick paste with the consistency of peanut butter.
Once the mixture is ready, transfer it to the foldable form or mold, filling it about three quarters full. Gently tap the sides of the form to help settle the mixture evenly. Once filled, flatten the top of the brick with a trowel or board. Allow the brick to sit and dry for two or three days, then remove it from the form.
Allow it to air dry in a warm, covered location, periodically checking to make sure the brick is not exposed to excessive moisture. After three to four weeks, the brick should be fully cured and ready to be used.
