1. Gather all the materials you will need: bricks, gravel, sand, edging stakes and string.
2. Clear the area and dig a trench around 3 inches deep and 8 inches wide.
3. Fill the trench with an inch of gravel, and lightly tamp it down.
4. Place edging stakes in the ground along the edge of the trench and tie a string between them to use as a guideline.
5. Spread a layer of sand over the gravel, and level it off.
6. Lay your bricks in a staggered pattern, beginning at one end of the trench. Place each brick so that it is slightly offset from the bricks beside it, creating a herringbone pattern.
7. Continue until you have run the path to the other end.
8. Using a trowel, fill in any gaps between the bricks with sand, ensuring that the bricks are firmly in place.
9. Fill the remaining space in the trench with additional gravel.
10. Use a broom to sweep the surface of the path to evenly distribute the gravel and sand.
11. Use an edger to neaten up the edges of the path.
12. Enjoy your new garden path!
