Procedure of Sand Bituminous Premix patching

    1. Making a rectangle of slightly larger size around the pot-hole and barricading the area.
    2. Cutting around the pot-hole area to a rectangular shape with vertical edges up to a maximum depth of the existing pot-hole and removing all the loose aggregates.
    3. Cleaning and removing all loose materials and dust.
    4. Application of tack coat of suitable bituminous binder at the bottom and all vertical edges of the cut pot-hole, using a sprayer.
    5. Filling up the prepared pot-hole with a dense bituminous premix; alternatively, an open-graded premix and seal coat may also be adopted.
    6. Compaction of the patched mix using a suitable roller and finishing level with the adjoining pavement surfaces.

    Applications

Filling the potholes, sometimes ruts, and cracks.

Subgrade Compaction In case to provide maximum structural support (as measured by MR, CBR, or R-value), subgrade soil must be compacted to an adequate density. If not, the subgrade will continue to compress, distort, or erode after construction, resulting in fractures and deformation in the pavement.

    Quality Control checks:

    1. The representative soil samples collected from the selected borrow pits for the construction of highway subgrade are subjected to relevant laboratory tests to check the values of LL, PL, Grain Size Distribution (by wet-sieve analysis), soluble sulphate content, organic matter, and the compacted density. If the material does not pass the tests, it shall not be used.
    2. Lab Compaction test is carried out on the selected soil to determine the OMC and maximum dry density of the soil, to be specified during construction.
    3. The CBR value of the soils selected for use in highway subgrade are determined in the laboratory, compacted at 97% MDD.
    4. The field moisture content of the loose soil after spreading to the desired thickness is determined by any rapid test method, so as to estimate the extra quantity of water to be added to bring up to the OMC of the soil.
    5. After adding additional water as required and mixing thoroughly, the moisture content is again checked by a rapid method to ensure that the OMC is achieved.
    6. After the soil layer is adequately rolled, the field density and moisture content are determined by one of the approved methods.
    7. Steps 1 to 4 shall be repeated for each subsequent layer.
    8. The finished surface levels of the subgrade are checked with reference to desired longitudinal and cross profile of the road if these are found to exceed the permissible tolerance of (+ 20 mm and -25 mm), the appropriate corrections are made by removing or adding part of the soil on the surface and by further rolling.

The hot drum mix plant or the asphalt plant is an essential tool that helps in roadway construction. These hot drum plants permit the mixing of the aggregates and asphalt/bitumen at particular temperatures, resulting in the production of superior quality paving material.

Numerous types of models exist for the hot drum mix plants, starting from the stationery to the mobile systems.

Hot drum mix plants work as simple but intelligently created mechanical tools that can help in the seamless blending of minerals and aggregates. Through these systems, heating, blending, and mixing of asphalt can be done with ease. This helps to come up with the material that is deemed necessary for the purpose of building roadways.

Firstly, The loader feeds an aggregate of different specifications of aggregates into the corresponding batching hopper. These aggregates are weighed according to the pre-set ratio.

Then transport the weighed aggregates to the drying drum and dry and heat them. And convey them to the hot aggregate storage bins.

Next, heated aggregates, bitumen, and powder will be transferred to the mixer machine.

After mixing, the whole process finishes. You can transport the finished asphalt mixture directly to your construction site. Or you can store them in the finished storage bins.
