1. Mark your wall’s location by stretching strings across the area and driving stakes into the ground at each corner and at regular intervals along the length of the wall.
2. Dig a trench for footing for the wall that is below the frost line in your area. The depth of the trench will depend on the height of your wall, but it should be at least 24 inches deep.
3. Create a level surface for the footing of your wall by filling the trench with gravel and tamping it down until it is even.
4. Build a form for the wall from a material such as wood or plastic that can be easily removed after the concrete has cured. Place the form at the edge of the gravel and use stakes to hold the form in place.
5. Prepare the concrete mixture according to the instructions on the bag and pour the mixture into the form. Use a trowel to make sure the concrete is evenly distributed and that there are no air pockets.
6. Smooth the surface of the concrete using a float to create a steady slope away from the house.
7. Allow the concrete to cure and then remove the form.
8. Backfill the trench with soil or other materials and finish by planting grass or plants around your new retaining wall.
