Building a small retaining wall can be done in several easy steps. First, dig a trench slightly wider than the width of the wall. Make sure the trench has straight corners and is a uniform depth.
Next, lay down a layer of gravel at the bottom of the trench to ensure proper drainage. After that, lay the foundation blocks for the wall, making sure they are evenly spaced and level. Once the foundation is laid, begin filling in the blocks with concrete or mortar and stacking them to form the wall. Secure each layer with rebar if necessary for added stability and strength. Finally, fill the space around the blocks with soil and tamp it down to give the wall extra stability.
