How to calculate permissible load bearing capacity of TMT bars?

TMT stands for ‘Thermo Mechanically Treated bars’.

TMT bar is also known as ‘Rebar’.

Calculation of Permissible Load Bearing Capacity of TMT Bars:

Let us assume, the diameter of the bar, d = 10mm

Cross-sectional area of bar, A = π/4 (d)² = 78.53mm²

Also assume grade of the bar, Fe500

As we know,

For Fe500 permissible strength of bar = 500N/mm²

Now, Permissible load bearing capacity = permissible stress × cross-sectional area

= 500 × 78.53 = 39265 N = 39.265 KN
