Staircase quantity can be calculated by taking the measurements of the space available for the staircase, then determining the number of steps required to properly fit the staircase within those parameters.
Generally speaking, if the total height of the staircase is five feet, each step should be six inches tall, with a tread depth of two feet and a bottom clearance of four inches. Once the necessary measurements have been determined, you can then multiply the number of steps by the tread depth plus the bottom clearance to get the total quantity of stairs required for your staircase installation.
