To fill oil in a hydraulic door closer, first determine the type of hydraulic fluid needed for the particular door closer. Then open the door closer by removing any screws, nuts, or bolts which secure it. Carefully remove the piston from the door closer and clean the cylinder thoroughly. Once the piston is removed, fill the reservoir with the recommended type of hydraulic fluid until it reaches the full line indicated on the side of the cylinder.
Reinstall the piston into the cylinder, making sure to fill the remaining voids of the cylinder with the same recommended hydraulic fluid. Secure the door closer back into place and test the movement of the door before closing it.
