3. Calculate the number of bricks you will need for the project, allowing extra for cutting and trimming pieces to fit.
4. Lay out the bricks in the pattern on the ground to get an idea of where each one should go.
5. Spread a layer of mortar, which is a paste made from sand and water, over a section that’s 1 brick wide and 2 bricks long, or a bit larger depending on the size of your brick.
6. Lay the first brick carefully down into the mortar, using a trowel to move it around if necessary.
7. Place the next brick next to the first one, keeping the gaps between them even.
8. Use a level to make sure each brick is sitting flat and not tilting in any direction.
9. Continue adding bricks and mortar until the section is complete.
10. Allow the bricks to set overnight and then brush off any excess mortar or dirt.
