      • Ductility is described as a material’s capacity to withstand substantial deformations without rupturing before failure.
      • The percentage of steel reinforcement in concrete determines its ductility. Mild steel is a ductile material that can be bent and twisted without breaking is one of the ductile material examples.
      • When ductile elements are employed to construct a structure, it may withstand massive deformations before failing. This is advantageous to the users of the structures since, in the event of overloading, the structure will undergo massive deformations before to failure, providing notice to the inhabitants. This offers the inhabitants notice and allows them enough time to take preventative precautions. This will reduce the number of people who die.
      • When compared to regular detailing, the overall cost of a building using ductile detailing is around 7% lower. IS code used for ductile design and detailing are IS 1893-2002, IS 13920-1993 and IS 4326-1993.
      • Structures with ductile detailing have the toughness and ductility to withstand significant earthquake shocks without collapsing. The structures listed below require ductile detailing: –
      1. The structure is in seismic zones IV and V.
      2. The structure is in seismic zone III and has a significant factor (I) greater than one.
      3. The structure is an industrial structure that is positioned in seismic zone III.
      4. The structure is more than 5 Storeys high and is in seismic zone III.
