Hoover Dam is most famously known as one of the largest and most ambitious engineering feats in U.S. history. Built between 1931 and 1936 during Franklin Roosevelt’s New Deal, the dam tamed the Colorado River, created Lake Mead, provided jobs to thousands of workers in the Great Depression, and supplied hydroelectricity and water to millions of people in the Southwest.
It has since become a major tourist attraction and is often considered an iconic symbol of American ingenuity.
