The main difference between a taxiway and a runway is that a taxiway is used for aircraft to move to and from the runway, while the runway is used for aircraft to take off and land.
The taxiway is usually marked with yellow lines and arrows to indicate the direction of travel, while the runway is marked with white lines and numbers. A taxiway is also much shorter than a runway, usually only a few hundred feet in length.
