Explain the different elements of steel truss

Different components of steel truss are as follows:

• Span: It is the distance between the span of two supports (i.e. column) of the roof truss.
• Spacing: It is the horizontal distance between two consecutive trusses. Economical spacing between the truss = 1/3 to 1/5 of the span.
• Top Chord: It is also known as Principal Rafter. It is the member from the end support to the ridge point.
• Bottom Chord or Main Tie: It is also known as Main Tie. Its main function is to take tension.
• Sag Tie: It is the vertical member joining a ridge point and midpoint.
• Ridge Point: It is the highest point of the truss.
• Panel Point: It is also known as Nodal Point. It is the point on the principal rafter where vertical or inclined members are connected to the principal rafter.
