To build a retaining wall on a sloped yard, you will need: shovel, level, gravel, landscape fabric, stones/bricks, and concrete or mortar. Start by creating a trench at the base of the slope. Make sure to keep it straight and level. Next, add gravel to the bottom of the trench for drainage. Lay landscape fabric over the gravel and secure it with small stones.
Then start building the wall from the bottom up using stones or bricks and cement or mortar. Make sure to keep the wall level as you build it. When you’re finished, fill in any gaps between the stones or bricks and compact the area. Finally, backfill the side of the retaining wall away from the slope with soil and topsoil.
