3. Line the bottom of the trench with a layer of gravel and use a compactor to tamp it down. This will help improve drainage and ensure your wall is stable.
4. Mix mortar according to the instructions on the package. Use a margin trowel to spread the mortar onto the wall base, then lay the first course of stones. Make sure each stone is level with the ones next to it.
5. Add more mortar and stones until you reach the desired height. When you come to the end of a row, use a stone hammer to trim the ends of the stones so they fit snugly against the stones in the row before.
6. Once your wall is complete, fill in any cracks or gaps with more mortar and brush over the entire surface of the wall to give it a finished look.
