1. Choose the components for your system. Consider factors such as water pressure, soil type, and total area of your garden.
2. Draw your irrigation plan on graph paper. Designate where the pipes and valves should be placed and how they will connect to your water source.
3. Connect the main line tubing to the water shutoff valve. Mark the locations of each pipe and fitting on the main line tube.
4. Install the backflow preventer, if required by local codes.
5. Dig trenches to lay the pipes and fittings. Make sure the pipes are level and run downhill from the water source.
6. Connect the drip emitters along the distribution lines. Make sure there is adequate pressure for each emitter.
7. Connect the irrigation system to the water source. Plug in the timer and set it according to the instructions.
8. Test the system for leaks and check the water flow.
9. Cover the trenches and mulch around the pipe.
10. Adjust the sprinklers or emitters as needed to ensure proper coverage.
