Estimating in civil engineering largely depends on the type and scope of work. Generally, estimates may include itemized lists of labor, materials, equipment and other costs required to complete a project. Cost estimates are usually based on labor hours, unit prices and material costs.
In order to make an accurate estimate, the engineer must thoroughly understand the project requirements and the associated labor, material and equipment costs. Once the cost of the project is estimated, the engineer must use the current accepted standards of measurement and pricing to ensure accuracy.
