To polish plywood at home, you will need the following supplies: sandpaper (coarse, medium, and fine grit levels), stain or paint, paint brush, tack cloth, a bucket of warm water, car wax, and a polishing cloth.
1. Begin by sanding the wood lightly in one direction with the coarse sandpaper. This will remove any rough patches and splinters.
2. Switch to the medium grit sandpaper and use in a circular motion over the entire surface.
3. Use the fine sandpaper and go over the entire surface again. Be sure to sand in one direction only.
4. Use the tack cloth to clean up any dust particles.
5. Now apply a coat of paint or stain with a paint brush. Allow it to dry completely before proceeding.
6. Wet the polishing cloth and add a pea–sized amount of car wax to it.
7. Rub the wax over the wood in a circular motion using gentle pressure.
8. Buff the area with a clean cloth until the wood begins to shine. Repeat this process as necessary.
9. Finally, rinse off any excess wax with a bucket of warm water. Follow these steps to successfully polish plywood at home.
