      Paved Shoulder

      The shoulder is a section of pavement outside of an outer lane that is provided for emergency traffic and to preserve the pavement edges from damage. The paved shoulder is the piece of the road that is at the same level as the highway and is adjacent to the regularly utilised segment of the highway.
