      1. The width of the staircase should be at least 36 inches wide to comfortably accommodate two people walking side by side.
      2. Risers should be a uniform height, ranging between 4 and 8 inches.
      3. Treads should have a minimum of 11 inches of depth.
      4. The total rise should never exceed 12 feet per continuous run of stairs.
      5. The ratio of riser to tread should generally be between 15 and 17 inches.
      6. Handrails should be placed between 34 and 38 inches off the ground.
      7. The railing should have a minimum of 36 inches of clearance.
      8. All steps must have secure nosings that protrude past the front face of the riser.
      9. Headroom should be at least 6’8″ for normal use.
      10. Each tread should have a minimum of 6″ of tread depth.
