A theodolite is an instrument used for measuring angles in both horizontal and vertical planes. It consists of a movable telescope mounted within two perpendicular axes—the horizontal or trunnion axis and the vertical axis. The theodolite is used primarily in surveying and construction work to measure angles of elevation, azimuth, and directions.
