It is determined by analyzing the effects of the earthquake on structures and the ground. The Modified Mercalli Intensity (MMI) scale is used to describe the level of shaking felt at a particular location, ranging from I (barely noticeable) to XII (total destruction). Intensity is influenced by various factors, including the distance from the epicenter, the magnitude of the earthquake, and the local geology.
