Eccentric loading is a type of muscle contraction in which tension is created when the muscle lengthens during an exercise. This type of contraction requires the muscle to produce more force than during a concentric contraction, resulting in increased muscle strength, stiffness, and size.
In addition, eccentric loading can help improve balance, proprioception (the ability to sense the position of one’s body in space), joint stability, and coordination.
