Soundness is a measure of the resilience of a cement paste to undergo a volume change without cracking. It is defined as the difference between the two values for the setting times determined by two different test methods, the Le Chatelier method and the Autoclave method. It can be used as a measure of strength and durability of cement and other binding materials.
