Superelevation is provided to prevent vehicles from overturning due to centrifugal forces on curves in the road. It is used to counteract the effect of these forces by raising the outer edge of the curve slightly higher than the inner edge.
This creates an elevated banking and reduces the amount of lateral (sideways) force experienced by vehicles going around the corner, and enables them to drive more safely at higher speeds.
