Highway maintenance is divided into three categories:
Periodic / Routine Repairs
Periodic or normal repairs are made to the road pavements through repairs or day-to-day repairs that are completed properly. The majority of these are done on low-cost roads.
Routine Repairs
Routine repairs are usually handled by departmental employees, whereas periodic repairs are handled by contractors who are invited at predetermined intervals.
Special Repairs
Unique problems necessitate unique solutions. As a result, special repairs are made to address some major unique difficulties, ensuring that the road does not deteriorate in the future.
The majority of these repairs are done on high-class highways. Because these repairs are difficult to complete, skilled labour is required.
Resurfacing
Resurfacing is the process of restoring the surface dressing of a pavement that has been significantly degraded. For bituminous roads, this is generally done.
