      1. Measure the height of the threshold from the ground to the top of the doorframe and decide on the desired incline for the ramp. The incline should match the guidelines for ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) ramps and be no more than 1:12 (1 inch of vertical rise for every 12 inches of ramp length).

      2. Cut two pieces of plywood to the desired length. The width of the plywood should be wide enough to support the wheelchair and the person using it.

      3. Attach the two pieces of plywood together on one end with a pair of hinges. This will join the two pieces and allow them to fold together when not in use.

      4. Attach a handle or knob to the top section of the ramp. This will make it easier to carry the ramp when it is folded.

      5. Measure out the desired incline on the ramp and mark it with a pencil.

      6. Cut the ramp at the marked incline with a circular saw. Make sure to sand down any rough edges with a sander to ensure a smooth surface.

      7. Secure the ramp to the doorframe using lag screws, making sure to account for the weight of the wheelchair and the person using it.

      8. Cover the ramp with non–slip material to provide better traction for the wheelchair and person using it.
