Deep Foundation	Shallow Foundation
Depth is greater than the shallow foundation.	Depth is generally about 3 meters or the depth of foundation is less than the footing with.
It has more complex construction process.	It has easy construction process.
The foundation can be provided at a greater depth	It have possibility of a settlement
It is more expensive, it can be time-consuming, it have complex construction procedures, it needs skilled labours, and some types of deep foundations are not very flexible, etc.	The construction materials are available, construction procedure is simple at an affordable cost, etc, less labour is needed.
It rely both on end bearing and skin friction	It transfer loads mostly by end bearing.
It is expensive.	It is cheaper.
Foundation which is placed at a greater depth or transfers the loads to deep strata is called the deep foundation.	Foundation which is placed near the surface of the earth or transfers the loads at shallow depth is called the shallow foundation.
Its types are Pier foundation, pile foundation, caissons etc.	Its types are Isolated foundation, strip foundation, mat foundation, combined foundation, etc.
