Marine plywood is usually manufactured in a multi–stage process. First, the thin sheets of wood are cut from the tree and each sheet is inspected for defects. They are then glued together and pressed in an industrial press with waterproof resin adhesive, which binds the layers together.
The next step is to apply a sealant, usually paint or epoxy, to all exposed edges to prevent water from seeping into the core layers. Finally, the sheets are inspected for quality and strength before being labeled as marine grade plywood.
