D

^{2}/162 is the formula for calculating the unit weight of steel bars. Where D represents diameter of steel bars, and 162 is a constant value which is derive as shown below.Derivation of this formula,

Assume the length of the bar = 1m

Unit weight of Steel = 7850 kg/m

^{3}Weight of the steel bar (W) = Volume (V) * Unit weight of steel (Y)

W= V * Y

W= πD²/4 * L x Y

Substituting the values,

W= πD²/4 * 1 x 7850

As steel DÃa is in mm it has to be converted to Meter, D

^{2}/ 1000^{2}W= π/4 * D

^{2}/ 1000^{2Â }* 7850W = D
