To pursue a career in civil engineering, you will need to complete a four-year bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from an accredited university or college. This can be followed by earning a master’s degree and/or professional certification if desired.
You will also need to each prescribed courses in mathematics, physics, and other sciences as part of your civil engineering program of study. To become licensed, civil engineers are typically required to pass two exams, obtain a certain level of experience in the field, and complete continuing education courses.
