3. Make sure that the vertical circle reading is accurate. To do this, turn the instrument until it reads 000.00, using the fine adjustment mechanism if necessary.
4. Turn the theodolite to the desired orientation, using the horizontal circles. Make sure that the vertical circle remains steady.
5. Take a reading from the vertical circle and record it.
6. Big the level bubble, making sure that the axis of the instrument stays in the same position.
7. Take a reading from the horizontal circles and record it.
8. Repeat steps 4-7 as many times as needed to get a complete 360 degree reading.
9. To take additional readings from the same point, turn the instrument back to the original orientation and repeat steps 5-8.
