The total station is a piece of modern equipment used for surveying. it consists of EDM (electronic distance measurement) which measures the vertical and horizontal angle or the distance of the object.

      Total Station

Steps are to be followed how to use total station instrument:

Following steps are followed for setting up the devices:

      1. Gather all equipment in one place.
      2. First, we need to gather all the necessary equipment that as a tripod, tribrach, controller, cables, survey stake or nail, and a mallet.
      3. Mark a reference point.
      4. Create or establish a reference point for the project and mark this point with nails.
      5. Setting up the tripod at a reference point, when the tripod is set on the reference point. Do centering and leveling.
      6. Attach the tribrach and course level to the tripod.
      7. We need to initial necessary adjustments of the tripod to get a proper reading or to avoid errors in reading.
      8. Try to place the tripod directly over the reference point.
      9. Place the total station on the tripod.
      10. Then connect the battery pack and controller to the total station using cables.
      11. Start the device and controller. Open the fine level as well functionality using the controller.
      12. Adjust the device by performing initial processes like leveling and centering. Bring the device directly over the reference point.

Now you can use the device to take readings. You can take measurements for land surveying, construction, and many projects.

Steps are to follow to how to stake out the points:

      1. Staking out the points is one of the main or common uses of the total station.
      2. This process starts by setting up the device over the reference point which is already a known point.
      3. Write down the coordinate of the point that will calculate the correct distance.
      4. Turn the total stations at 0 degrees on the horizontal axis. The device in such a way that will reflect a line of sight.
      5. We can bring the device in such a position that the device is at the correct position away from the instrument by using EDM. Mark the point with the help of nails.

Total station surveying instruments are used to measure distances, angles, and elevations. To use a total station, the surveyor must first set up the instrument on a tripod and level it.

The surveyor then uses the instrument to measure distances and angles to points on the ground. The instrument is then used to measure the elevation of each point. The surveyor then records the data and uses it to create a map or plan of the area.
