Losses in prestress concrete are as follows:
Loss due to Elastic shortening: Loss occurs in the stretch in the wire when prestress gets transmitted to concrete members resulting in contraction because of prestressing.
Shrinkage of concrete: When the stretch of steel gets lost because of shrinkage strain, there is a contraction because of shrinkage strain occurs in concrete and drying of concrete.
Creep of concrete: Loss occurs because of creep of concrete, in prestressed concrete prestress is the permanent force that causes compressive stress at the level of steel, so there is creep strain in members because permanent force creep is time-dependent deformation.
Relaxation of steel: In steel, stresses are more than half of its yield, so there is a creep, due to this the force of prestressing falls, so there is loss of prestress.
