We use soft and hard connections in pre-stressing are that applying an initial tensile force into bonded or unbonded steel reinforcement—thus an initial compressive force into the prestressed concrete.
The compressive force is achieved in relatively thin, light systems through the introduction of active forces rather than the addition of material. I think it is a reason we use soft and hard connections in PSC.
