Aeration tanks in wastewater treatment are tanks used to add air to wastewater. Aeration is used to break up organic matter which helps to restart the microbial digestion process. The microorganisms then consume the organic matter and produce carbon dioxide, which is released into the atmosphere. Oxygen is also added to the tank to provide a more balanced environment for the microbes.
