Transportation engineers are responsible for planning, designing, constructing, maintaining and managing infrastructure such as roads, highways, public transport systems, bridges, tunnels, airports and other such transportation related projects and networks.
They also investigate existing transportation systems and design new or improved transportation systems to meet the needs of the public. Additionally, they develop plans for traffic control, analyze traffic patterns, develop standards for construction and inspect projects. They may also be in charge of traffic signals, signs, pavement markings, and other traffic management systems.
