      Applications of  STP in estimating the bearing capacity of soil:

      • Soil samples that are collected can be used for identifying the type of soil.
      • SPT data can be used to establish the compressibility and relative strength index of the soil.
      • Penetrate to dense layers, gravel, and tilt.
      • With SPT-N values, the method can reflect actual soil behavior during earthquakes, that cannot be simulated in a lab.
      • It is used especially for cohesionless soils.
      • The relative density and the angle of cohesionless soils can be determined by using STP.
      • The unconfined compressive strength of cohesive soil can be determined by using STP.

      Applications of  direct shear in estimating the bearing capacity of soil:

      • The drainage is quick and pore pressure dissipates fast as the thickness of the sample is small.
      • Less amount too time is taken by Consolidated- undrained and drained tests.
      • A direct shear test is ideal for drained tests on cohesionless soils.
      • To measure shear strength properties of soil material or discontinuities in rock masses or soil.
