      System of railways:

      In the comparison with all other modes of transportation, railways are the safe land transport system. The railway system has so many advantages for the development of the system of the nation politically, socially and economically. Some of them are discussed below:

      • The system of railways has United the people of different religions, customs, castes and traditions.
      • This system helps in the mass migration of the population of the nation.
      • This system provides a convenient and safe mode of transportation for all the passengers travelling in it.
      • This system also employs millions of people and therefore solves the problem of unemployment in the nation.
      • This system plays a very important role during emergencies in mobilizing troops and war equipment.

      Advantages of railways in comparison to highways:

      • Railways can handle the heavier loads at high speed while highways have very low capacity.
      • Railways are cheaper than highways.
      • Accident rates are very less on railways as compared to highways.
      • Railways are best suitable for long-distance travelling as compared to highways.
      • Operational control in railways has a good block system which is safe and efficient for the movement of trains at the signals and intersections while there is no such system in the case of highways.
      • Railways worked according to schedule and have a rigid system of working, while in case of highways everybody has right to ingress or express i.e. flexible to all.
      • Railways are very suitable in plane regions as compared to highways.
      • Tractive resistance in railways is very less compared to tractive resistance in highways.
      • Origin and destination points in railways are fixed while in the case of highways origin and destination can be flexible.
      • Railways are more time-consuming in comparison to highways.
      • The adaptability of size in railways is very high in comparison to highways.
