The chainage is a horizontal distance, the combination of the curve and straight line between two-point. The combination of straight lines and curves is also called curvilinear. It is often known as stationing and this term is used in route surveying.how to calculate chainage in surveying

The starting point of the line is denoted as 00+00 with the stationing at least 100 feet long then the line is denoted as 1+00(for 100 feet) 2+00…(for 200 feet)…..3+00( for 300 feet), etc.

where the first number represents the number of 100n foot stations and the digits after the (+) signs indicate any remaining portion than 100 feet.

For example = 41+57.95 would represents 4157.95 feet

Chainage in surveying is the distance along a line from a reference point. It is typically measured using a chain or tape, and is used to measure the distance between points on the ground.

To calculate chainage, the surveyor must first measure the distance between the reference point and the point of interest. The surveyor then records the data and uses it to create a map or plan of the area.

Chainage in surveying is a method used to measure distances by establishing a baseline and then counting the number of links, or chains, between two points. Chainage is useful when the land area being surveyed is flat and doesn’t require any significant climbing or descending. It can also be used to measure distances for buildings, roads, and other structures.
