Option 1: Patch the area with a drywall patch kit. Be sure to read instructions carefully and apply the drywall mud evenly over the entire area. Allow the mud to dry completely before sanding it down and painting the patched area.
Option 2: Scrap the damaged drywall and replace it with new one. Cut out the existing section to be replaced and secure new drywall to the ceiling joists. Tape and mud the seams, sand and paint the new drywall.
