1. Set up the theodolite on a tripod. Make sure the bubble indicator is level.
2. Find two reference points on the ground and make sure they are at the same height.
3. Point the theodolite toward the first reference point and use the upper plate to adjust the theodolite until it’s perfectly aligned with the point.
4. Use the lower plate to adjust the horizontal angle from the first reference point to the second one. Read the angle from the scale.
5. Repeat this process for any additional reference points.
